My Best Friend's Wedding

My best friend Kira was married last weekend and I was so happy to be a part of her day! I was really happy that the family could come with me! Here is a slideshow of all the wedding fun:

Here is a transcript of the weekend from my point of view:

Friday was all about wedding prep. In the morning I went to get my nails done with Kira, her sister Miranda, and her mom Janet. As soon as I saw Kira it was like all that time apart was swept away in an instant. I love her so much! We had a great time getting pampered for a couple hours. Then I had to pick up ingredients to make cookies for the reception. It took me most of the day to do that. Then it was off to the hotel for the rehearsal. Savai'i came with me since I didn't know how long it would take and he needs me for nourishment. After the rehearsal we went to Janet's house to make our fresh flower bouquets. Claire, Kira's younger sister and Bella, her cousin, were the other bridesmaids. We had a pleasant time together. It was weird to see Claire drinking beer but she is legal age now. I just see her in my mind as my other little sister :)
Saturday was a crazy day. We had to leave that night from the wedding to drive to Vegas. So that morning was spent packing and getting ready to leave. I let the boys go for one last swim with grandpa. David had to take me and Vai to the hotel at noon to get ready for the wedding. I fed Vai right when I got to the salon where the bride and her girls were getting ready. I left him sleeping with Kira while I went to help finish decorating. Poor Kira got sick the night before her wedding. I wasn't too worried of Vai catching anything but I was worried for my friend not feeling well. She didn't get much better throughout the day. We had a moment to relax before the hair and make up stylists arrived. I did my own make up but had my hair done. I held Vai in my lap most of the time. Janet was getting her hair done at the same time and we had a nice visit and she got to play with Vai. He was the favorite of all the ladies being the only baby in the room. I think he enjoyed all the attention. Miranda especially seemed drawn to him.
There was a little drama, as there is with all weddings. The wedding coordinator told Kira they would have to move the ceremony indoors due to weather. They said they could wait for an hour to see if it improved. Of course, Kira got emotional and at this point. She already had to deal with so much and bad weather was not in the plan. She was able to calm down while she got her hair styled. The photographer showed up but we weren't ready. This whole time we were wearing these really nice dressing robes Kira gave us as bridesmaid gifts. It was readily nice and we had a fun time with all the girls getting ourselves looking fabulous!
Well, thankfully, the wedding coordinator was wrong. The weather was perfect! The ceremony was sweet and beautiful. We were meant to take pictures before but were running late so the pictures were pushed to after. It turned out great because the sun was setting at that time and made a beautiful backdrop. The pictures turned out great and I felt beautiful and so full of joy for my best friend. I was so delighted that Kira was willing for me to have a beautiful, modest gown and be a part of her special day. She was stunningly beautiful.
After the ceremony was the wedding dinner and reception. I was beyond sad that we had to leave early. Honestly, most weddings I have attended are LDS weddings and the receptions are much shorter so I just didn't know what to expect. It was such a joy to experience Kira's wedding and I wished I could have stayed longer. However, I loved every minute that I was there. My mom and I had some time to visit while I nursed Savai'i in the salon before we left. We were able to see the couple's first dance as husband and wife. We left at 9 before the toasts, mother-daughter and mother-son dance, cake cutting, garter/bouquet toss, etc. I was really sad about it, but Kira and I talked before and she understood it was what was best for my traveling family. We said a sweet good bye and I wish them both very happy.

Congratulations Kira and Nate! I wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
