It was a crazy decision but we knew we had to do it. So we picked the boys up from school and took them to the animal shelter. We all met Princess and the boys were so excited. Kai wanted to walk her by himself right away. (We decided to take it slow for that.) We loaded Princess Amber in the car and took her home. David had already bought a kennel and food bowls and food for her before we picked up Princess. I added Amber to her name because of her eyes and because I don't like the name Princess but she responds to her name really well.
Before we picked her up I went to PetCo and got her a harness and leash. I chose the pink because she's a girl and it looked more durable than the purple. Plus, I think she looks good in pink.
We took her to visit David's parents, but Princess wasn't friendly to their dog Sammy. Princess will need some more socializing before she is ready for puppy playtime.
Once we got her in the house this was the first place she went and she hasn't left it for very long since.
The great thing about getting an older dog is that she was already house trained and kennel trained. She has had a couple accidents but for the most part she has been great.
She doesn't like the kennel very much. Mostly she follows me around the house. Up and down the stairs several times and so fast all the pictures are blurry.
The best way to get to know your dog is to take her on walks so we did that a lot!
Kai tried walking with her. This picture is misleading because I very quickly took hold of the leash and Kai doesn't walk her by himself. Especially since anytime she barks at another dog or another dog barks at her Kai drops the leash and runs away terrified.
The next day we took her to get groomed since she'd been in the shelter for a while. She rode in the front this time since I wasn't in the backseat to make sure she didn't try to leap over the baby. I think she liked the front seat better anyway.

Her first place to sleep was on my giant stuffed moose at the foot of our bed.
The next morning Kai's face looked like Christmas morning.
After her first grooming experience at PetCo. She is so shiny and pretty.
Out on a walk and I had to get this shot of her by the fire hydrant.
Kai likes to cuddle with her.
David loves Princess. They are best buds. He's a good dad and can manage dog and baby.
This is her favorite corner.
Look at this beautiful girl out on our walk.
I love this girl too. Princess Amber is a lot of fun.
Her ears are so soft.
She is waiting for the boys to finish playing so she can finish her walk.
TJ holding on for dear life...
Vai helping me walk Princess.
I love it when Princess Amber curls up in a little ball to take a nap.
These two like to play...
Princess can do some naughty things, like eating an entire loaf of bread and defecating on the floor in the middle of the night while I am nursing the baby and David is out of town.
She still wants me to rub her belly...
She looks like a little puppy embryo in her bed
So far having a dog is great and a lot of work. She is needy but also affectionate. At 2am in the morning I'm not her biggest fan, but for the rest of the day, I like having her around. It will be interesting to see how her personality presents itself as she gets to know us better and gets more comfortable. I hope she will soon realize that she is home and we are her family.
